Outing to the Zoo

We made our way to the zoo on Monday and this was Kendrick's second visit! Now that he is older, he recognises a lot more animals and is able to name them as well. So I guess this time round it's more meaningful for him.

It was a public holiday so the Zoo was really packed with lots of families and kids. Luckily we headed there in time for sufficient parking and also to catch most of the shows that we wanted to see. Interestingly, we also ran into a couple that we met on our Japan trip 2 years ago. They now have a 7 month old son :) Well, other than that, the weather was great - not extremely hot and neither did it rain. Kendrick was also able to sustain all the way till we left the zoo at 3 plus in the afternoon without any nap! Surprisingly, he even lasted all the way till we came home before falling asleep the moment he lay on his bed.

So here are some pics that we took. You will notice that it's really difficult to get Kendrick to look at the camera and smile. He's lower teeth are teething too and he's been sucking on his lower lip lately, making him look kinda weird. Hope he passes this phase quickly!!

We managed to catch the Polar Bear feeding session this time. Before it started, Father and Son sneaked a shot at the glass enclosure
Watching the Rainforest show at the main amphi-theatre. Seriously, they should do something about this show. It really has no depth...
Headed to the Rainforest KidzWorld before lunch time to check out the little animals followed by some water fun. Here a goat is behind us. It actually climbed up this branch to eat its food!
Kendrick spots a little bunny
Getting ready for some water fun. Before getting wet, here's a picture with Kendrick's Xiao Gu
Well, Kendrick was kinda scared of the water. Guess it's our fault for not bringing him swimming often enough. Dear had to take some time to let him get used to playing with the water

After we were done with the water fun, we had lunch and then we headed to the Safari area to check out some of the animals like the giraffe here in the background
The not so nice look of Kendrick sucking his lower lip. Haha...

Finally we made time for the Splash show which showcase mainly the sea-lion. Amazingly, Kendrick managed to wait with us for around 20 mins before the show started. We had to grab a seat early due to the huge crowd on a public holiday

After this show, we headed to the exit area where Kendrick had his milk and we had another round of snacks - KFC. Hehe. After that, it was home sweet home. See ya another time Zoo!

Another haircut for Kendrick

I guess the last time we trimmed Kendrick's hair, it wasn't really short enough. His hair grew out quite fast and looks really thick at the sides. Sadly, some people cannot tell whether he's a boy or girl as a result!! So this long weekend, Mummy decided that we must send Kendrick for another haircut! Now that Kendrick has experienced sitting on his own on the chair to cut his hair, he was able to sustain through this round of haircut again, albeit with a bit of help in the form of biscuits to distract him :)

Ok, Kendrick kinda looks like a girl in this shot...I can imagine him with longer hair...gosh...Pretty boy...kekeke
Looking like a mushroom head before his hair cut. Haha...
Very carefully noting all the strands of hair which fall down, Kendrick says 'Dirty dirty'
Very difficult to photograph him without moving, but here's a shot after the haircut...looks much better to me!
This was on another day when we had lunch with Kendrick's Wai Gong Wai Po. Here Kendrick does the 'E.T' finger action with grandma
Kendrick makes Mummy and Wai Po do the 'E.T.' finger action too :)

Kendrick is 20 months

Yup...gosh..I'm now like counting down to his 2 year old birthday already. Ha ha! My little baby is now such a big toddler...can't believe how time flies! And with Kendrick, every day is never the same and we really thank God for giving us Kendrick.

Here's some updates on his development...

Kendrick seemed to put on some weight this month. The last I checked he's around 11.8kg. As for height, can't seem to measure accurately, but approximately 86cm tall. Physically he's getting stronger and is now able to climb up our bed without assistance. Previously he did not have enough strength to lift himself up but now that he learned how to leverage on the little edge of the bed to lift himself up, he's climbing up and down our bed really easily. At his Grandparent's home, Kendrick is also climbing up and down the coffee table and sofa all day! Kendrick takes after his Father in being 'pi ku jian'!!

In terms of speech development, Kendrick continues to be the talkative little fella'. All day he's talking and talking and saying things that he knows or just telling us little things like 'Mummy sit here, Papa sit there, Kendrick sit here'. He also loves to tell us things and objects he knows and will constantly mimic some of the words and sentences we say. I guess the only time we get some peace and quiet is during his nap time! But I must say he's rather observant. He notices small little details on books or objects so that he can point out to us what he knows. Like when we were having a meal and he was playing with his kids utensils, he noticed the small print that it was IKEA brand and he told us about it. I guess if you didn't look at it closely, you would not have really noticed it as it was not very obvious.

Kendrick's ability to link patterns and sequences of events continues to be very strong. He always remembers the things he will see along the way home or on our way out and will always call out to those objects before we pass by. He now even knows when the car will turn at certain junctions. Wonder if he has a map in his mind. Ha Ha... Dear says it's just a guy thing to know their directions better :P His unique way of looking at objects also continue to fascinate us. Already earlier on he has shown us that he is able to see the letter 'M' as it is, then turning it around to recognise it as 'W'. He also does the same with numbers like '6' and '9', the square shape which he turned in a direction to see it as a 'diamond shape', the small letter 'h' which he turned around and felt it looked like '4'. Interesting how his brain works as we never actually taught him to look at things this way. It was something which he discovered himself all these while :)

We're still teaching him to recognise colours. He seems better at alphabets, shapes and numbers but slightly weaker in colours. He still gets the name of the colour mixed up. Well, slowly but surely he will pick it up. He's also not willing to be potty trained yet, whether to poo or to pee. Guess this will indeed take some time more. As for eating by himself, Kendrick has made some improvements, but I guess Mummy here has not really let him try much by himself as I'm adverse to getting things messy and dirty. Ha Ha... Maybe I'll set this as an upcoming milestone...

Anyway, here are some recent pics of Kendrick:

I thought the way this shot was taken makes Kendrick look like a big boy, don't you think?

This is Kendrick at home playing with his Lego and magnets

Kendrick loves to doodle on his doodle board and can be at it for a long time. He's able to draw round shapes, lines, jagged shapes, dots and always seem to be concentrating when drawing something. Whenever we ask him what he drew, his answers are always so creative ~ it's always some person or object he imagines it to be
I thought his eyes look cute and round here :)
