Dear Kendrick,

You gave Papa and Mummy a mini-scare last weekend when you suddenly decided to reject your milk! It started somewhere around last Thursday and Friday where you did not want to finish your milk at night before you went to bed. Then on Saturday itself, you only drank milk once in the morning and refused totally in the afternoon and at night!! Luckily, you still ate your porridge and food. But it was like you totally hated milk. The same thing happened again on Sunday. You drank your milk again in the morning as you were really hungry from the night. But the rest of the day, you did not want to drink at all. Although you still ate your porridge and other food, you still got us a little worried. At Ma-Ma house during the week, fortunately, you did not totally reject milk in the afternoon, though you did not finish your feed either. Gradually, this improved through the week as you began to drink more milk again and we were most happy to hear you asking for milk by the time it was Thursday!! We really wondered what happened over those few days. Was it some post effect of the MMR jab? Or just some sudden passing thing? Nevertheless, still happy to see you drinking your milk and taking your food as per normal again :)

Papa and Mummy are also very tickled by the way your communication skills are changing or improving. Nowadays, you always call out to the person you want attention from first before telling them what you want to tell them. You would say something like "Papa! Papa! Na Na" (when you want your Papa to see the picture of the banana you spotted), or "Mee Mee! Mee Mee! Tok!" (when you spotted the sight of a clock). This applies to the rest of our family members too, calling your Ma Ma or Gong Gong or Gu Gu before telling them things. And the fact that you must get our attention if not you will keep calling out to us makes you really cute my dear...

Can't imagine the day when you truly know how to talk...what would it be like? What would your first true sentence be about? We are looking forward :)

Bought some new sets of clothes for you from the pasar malam at Bishan recently and I really like this Elmo set. Cheap cheap too at 3 for $10 :)

Another hair-cutting day

Kendrick's hair was getting long again so we decided to all go for a quick hair trim today. At first Kendrick was not co-operative, but we managed to bluff him by letting him eat biscuit before he finally let his grand-aunt cut his hair....

Before cutting hair, Kendrick looks a tad serious and upset...
Still looking serious after his hair-cut. Trying to act cool izit?!
Just a slightly more close-up shot. Mummy's quite pleased with today's haircut :)

Kendrick at 15 months

Kendrick turned 15 months last week. This boy is growing more and more mischievous and I admit there have been times that I've gotten upset at his mis-behaviour. But as always, I can't stay angry at him for long as he's very adorable in his little ways.

Well, at 15 months now, he's been able to say quite a few more new words like 'wain-ing' (raining), his own name 'ken-drick' or 'drick-drick', 'hello', 'ton' (button), 'draw', 'nitenite', 'tree', 'moon' etc. Most of these he recognises the items too. In terms of numbers, he also seems to recognise 1 to 4 as well as the number 8 which he always says. Guess that's his favourite number. Haha. Generally, there seems to be a lot more that Kendrick understands but I can't really recall what else. He likes to imitate words we say and I guess his words are picked up from there. Like because we tell him 'no' to things, he also says no even though he does things we don't want him too. When he playfully hit me or poked me and I said 'ouch', he actually said 'ouch' the next time he poked me! Can faint.... Basically, he understands most of our questions and is able to respond accordingly as long as he is not being mischievous. Kendrick also recognises photos of himself and most of our family members.

He's been playing with his magnetic doodle board for a while now so he can do a bit of simple doodling on his own. On this note, I wonder if he will end up being a lefty or righty. Sometimes he holds the pen with his right hand, but sometimes he also switches to his left hand...hmmm...

During the recent Good Friday and Easter Weekend, I had a long weekend break with an additional day off that my company had effected. So we took the opportunity to bring Kendrick on outings again.

Downtown East - eXplorerKid: First time there for all of us so we signed up as members and Kendrick had a good time playing at the toddler play area, as well as the adventurous playground/gym

Some rock climbing with the help of Papa
On Good Friday, we headed to Sentosa mainly for the Underwater World. It's been a few years since I've been to Sentosa so we thought it was a good idea to check it out. Unfortunately, Kendrick kinda misbehaved later in the afternoon. He was fretting a lot firstly because he wanted me to carry him, then later he wanted to walk when we didn't want him to, so he got upset and cried. His tantrum throwing behaviour got me really tired and we headed home by 3pm...which was also good as it rained shortly after we left...

Still looking bright and cheery on our tram ride

Kendrick wants to touch the starfish too!

Then on Saturday, we brought Kendrick for his MMR jab in the morning. He cried a little when the jab went in but the crying stopped soon enough. At this check, Kendrick weighed 10.9kg and is 81.5cm tall. Quite a good height and weight combo to be in the 75th percentile. In the evening, we had dinner with my extended family, partially to celebrate my birthday as well.

Well, the long weekend was nice as we could spend more time doing things together and we certainly hope Kendrick enjoyed himself somehow :)

Happy Mood Kendrick this weekend

This weekend, Kendrick seemed to be in a very happy mood. On Saturday especially, it started off with him sleeping in quite long since the night and waking only around 8.45am, which was pretty rare. Then during lunch time, we brought him to the Bishan library and I think he was really happy to see soo many books that he can choose and pick from! He was really elated to walk up and down, picking one book after another. Of course, he does not really know what he's taking, but he was enjoying the process. He slept really well during his afternoon nap too, so he woke up cheery. And by night, he was very playful even before he slept!

On Sunday, we popped by Bishan park in the morning to have a look at the Class 95 dog walk. In the afternoon, we wanted to go swimming, but the rain thwarted our plans. Nevertheless, this little boy was again in a very playful mood today and again so before he slept. We put him to bed at 10pm but he only fell asleep at close to 11pm!! He kept wanting to play with his father and also myself and refused to really sleep so fast. Some interesting stuff he recognised this week include photos of himself. When we asked him who that was, he would say 'drick-drick'...meaning himself. When he saw Dear's book on OBAMA, he would say 'ma-ma', although we know he really meant 'ba-ma'. Ha hah... He's also making a lot of noise lately in terms of his speech...although they are all babbles...but it's sounding more and more like a string of babbles as his way of 'talking' like us adults. Can't imagine when he will actually say proper sentences..must be quite an interesting and exciting day when it comes :)

We went to Changi Airport Terminal 3 recently too...first time there for Mummy and Son...Kendrick was really struggling when we tried to take this photo

Catch us on TV.... ;)

Finally...after almost a month after Kendrick and I filmed our first little TV commercial, we saw it aired on TV :) The ad campaign started on 26 Mar 2009 and may last some time into April (to be confirmed). It was quite funny to see ourselves on air even though it was only for a short while! The 15 sec commercial actually took us around 3 - 4 hours to film!! The setting up of the location took time and so did the 'ng' shots. I'm quite thankful that Kendrick was pretty well-behaved that afternoon the filming was done. He did not really fret as much as I thought he might and was fairly cooperative. Well, hope this will be something for you to have a good laugh when you grow up my son! :)

Weekend with Kendrick

In the recent weekend, we brought Kendrick to my friend's son's birthday party. The place was full of kids and at first, Kendrick stuck close to us. Eventually when he warmed up to the new surroundings, he started venturing on his own to touch things. Like at home, he would touch anything that was on the table, including the tissue box. Talking about that, there was once when Kendrick started pulling out pieces of tissue paper from the tissue box at home without our knowledge!! I was both amused and mad to see all the tissue paper wasted on the floor! Ha ha... Anyway, back to the party, the thing about Kendrick is that he still does not know how to really interact with other kids yet. He would rather go about on his own and play with things that he can see around the place. He also attempted to climb up this flight of stairs and was not afraid to run off to places even though we showed him that we were not following him. He is quite a curious boy after all.

Then on Sunday, we took some time to head down to Marina Barrage since we were all new to that place. Although it was a little warm that afternoon, I could tell that Kendrick did enjoy the fact that we have brought him outdoors. He liked walking about on his own and really seemed like a 'big kid' already. When I look at the photos, I can't help thinking that my little baby is growing up fast! One moment just a little baby, next moment, walking next to us like a big kid. Time for #2?? Maybe, maybe not. Haha....

Here are some photos from our outing to Marina Barrage:

Somehow this part of the landscape really made it look like there was nothing else around. Looks like a fake backdrop too ya? Ha ha...

14 month old boy

Kendrick turns 14 months old today and he's been growing very well so far. This cheeky little boy is also getting quite sticky to me nowadays too - mostly wanting me to carry him or sayang him or comfort him. It's sweet to know that he thinks of me every now and then. If I'm out of his sight for some time, he will call out 'Mee-Mee' to look for me.

Anyway, some updates on his development:
  • Walks very well and has taken bigger steps to walk faster. This is especially so when we play catching with him where he will walk off very quickly to hide. I suppose in a few more months time he may show signs of running?!
  • Climbs up and down low bed/sofas easily without help, especially if they are just slightly below his waist level
  • Eats with his fingers for snacks
  • Empties containers of contents when he plays with his toys
  • Able to build his toy blocks more steadily now
  • Started to doodle on the 'magna-doodle' board that I bought him
  • Points to his nose when we ask him where it is
  • Responds to instructions such as 'hug' or 'sayang' or 'kiss'
  • Continues to be quite 'talkative' as he babbles lots of words that we tell him or teach him. Some new words include 'pur-pur' (purple), 'wed' (red), 'two', 'three' (which he can say when we prompt him with the first word 'one')
  • He seems to be understanding more things now when we read to him. Like this book of animals/objects with sounds they make, after reading many times to him, he remembers certain actions and sounds that represent that animal / object like - roar for lion, ding dong for bell, meow for cat, hiss for snake, buzz for bee...
  • He is also picking up patterns of how we do things. For e.g. when I use the vacuum cleaner, he knows that I have to pull the plug out and plug it into the power point. He showed me this when he wanted to 'help' me pull out the plug of the machine as the first step
  • He responds to the question 'Where?', like when we ask him where is Mummy, or where is his toy block, or where is his bib, or where is papa, where is his book, etc.
  • He recognises clothes that we wear. When we fold clothes and showed him the piece we are holding and ask him whose is this, he did say the correct person's clothes correctly quite a few times
  • He likes to play a lot with our 'adult stuff' like pretending to type away at the computer, press the telephone and put it to his ear, changing the TV channels by pressing the remote controller
Here's a few pictures of Kendrick with different expressions...
